Oborevwori fostering environmental sustainability in Delta – Okpomo
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has been commended for leading the charge in the transformation and promotion of environmental sustainability in the state.
Executive Assistant to the Governor on Beautification, Chief Emmanuel Okpomo, gave the commendation yesterday during demolition of illegal structures at the Cenotaph in Asaba.
Okpomo said the exercise was in line with the Governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda in promoting environmental sustainability for the well being of inhabitants of the state.
The Executive Aide stated that there were a lot of illegal activities at the Cenotaph before the management of the facility was handed over to him.
Chief Okpomo disclosed that the illegal activities at the Cenotaph clearly undermined the purpose for which it was established in the first place.
“They sell all kinds of alcohol and other illicit drugs within the Cenotaph and that is why we took the step to evacuate them from the place.
“The Cenotaph is now even better than what it used to be about two months ago when the governor said l should take over the management of the place.
“You saw the long luxury bus that was towed away from there, there were three people living inside the bus.
“We decided to clear the area of all forms of illegal activities to strengthen its ambience because it is an emergency stadium the governor uses for some programmes or ceremonies.
“We are going to repeat this routine exercise to ensure that people don’t turn such facility to their personal residences.
“We are always working together with Waste Management Board to keep the state clean and to promote environmental sustainability in line with the MORE Agenda of the state governor,” Chief Okpomo said.
