The Delta State Government, under the visionary leadership of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has made history by hosting Africa’s first Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summer Camp.

Lady Diana Ereyitomi Eyo-Enoette, Special Assistant to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, disclosed this to newsmen during the groundbreaking initiative.

She said over 120 young participants from across Delta State gathered for the “Delta State Scouts for SDGs Summer Camp 2024” to learn, innovate, and take action towards achieving the United Nations SDGs.

In her words, the Summer Camp was held from August 12th -15th, 2024, at the Valley Stream British School, Sapele in partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO), Royal Iwere Foundation, BradE Events, and Chef Buffy.

“The Sustainable Development Goals Summer Camp aims to localize the SDGs by translating global targets into actionable steps that resonate with the specific needs and realities of Delta State,” she posited.

Through interactive workshops, team-building exercises, and hands-on projects, she added that the camp nurtured sustainability, leadership, environmental consciousness, and active citizenship.

Special Assistant to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals also said that “This approach makes the goals more relevant and accessible to local communities, inspiring youth to take ownership and advocate for sustainable development within their environments”.

According to her, “This landmark event underscores Delta State’s commitment to youth development and positions it as a leader in driving the SDGs agenda across Africa. As a result, over 500 Deltan homes are now actively engaging with the goals, amplifying the impact of this transformative initiative”.

Meanwhile, the SDGs Summer Camp is a strategic initiative to invest in the future by fostering a generation of informed, responsible, and active young citizens dedicated to driving sustainable development in Delta State and beyond.
